1/ THREAD I started to notice some opinion polls on Indians I found interesting, I wanted to look into Indians, and the role that they are increasingly taking on in US.
2/ Right off the bat, they seem very woke 82% agree at least somewhat that the government needs to do more to guarantee equal rights for blacks (not equal outcomes, equal RIGHTS)
3/ In addition, 75% of Indians agree at least somewhat with defunding the police, and 59% of Indians believe that there is a lot of discrimination against blacks today
4/ We can also look at the opinions of Hindu Americans. About half of Indian Americans are hindu (not as high as I expected) so we can't necessarily extrapolate these views to the entire Indian population.
5/ In general Hindus seem far to the left of other religions on most issues. Majority of liberal Hindus believe that there should be reparations for slavery, and that whites have advantages due to their skin color
6/ In addition, 70% favor banning all guns 80% favor 15 dollar minimum wage, and they are towards the bottom in terms of groups that support the idea of their being only two genders.
7/ Thats not to say that they don't have conservative opinions as well. 60% support withdrawing aid from Israel, and on 40% support legalizing weed (less than mormons).
8/ Overall the evidence shows that Indians are a pretty left wing group (ID-ing as Dem more often then any other Asian group) as are Hindus which make up the majority of Indians
9/ In addition, Indians tend to be relatively successful even relative to other asians, being the most educated, and having the highest income.
10/ particularly they enjoy success in tech with 28% of Indians working in science and tech.
11/ 2 of the 5 biggest tech companies (Google, and Microsoft) have Indian Ceos, with other powerful companies such as Twitter, IBM and Adobe also having Indian CEOs
12/ Its hard to tell how many Indians are rank and file employees b/c the category Asian is not broken down further, but 71% of tech workers in Silicon Valley, and 50% in SF are foreign born, and a substantial number are from India. mercurynews.com
13/ Interestingly enough, Hindus are among the least worried about big tech censorship:
15/ Moving on to politics we see that, while they are not overrepresented in the house their numbers are growing, and three of the four Indian reps got their start with a majority of their donors being south Asian fivethirtyeight.com
16/We see also that Biden nominated many Indians to high profile roles most notably the half Indian president Kamala Harris. indiatoday.in
17/ Indians are also playing an increasingly prominent role on the far left, "people of South Asian descent appear to be playing an outsized role both as intellectual vanguard and grassroots activists." americankahani.com
18/ While Indians have leftists opinions here their opinions on Indian politics are more to the right. Many have noted that Modi has drawn crowds of thousands of people when he has come to America:
19/ Most Indians who have an opinion support the nationalist BJP and approve of Modi. This is true particularly among Hindus (compare to the hyper woke views of Hindus expressed before )
20/Also most Indians whether born here or there feel connected to India carnegieendowment.org
21/ Due to the British colonization of India, many Indians have grievances against western civilization, particularly an Anglo derived society such as the USA
22/ Couldn't find any data on this, but @Steve_Sailer wrote a good article reviewing an Indian grievance manifesto: “You took all our wealth, our diamonds. Now we have come to collect.” We are here, my grandfather was saying, because you were there.takimag.com
23/ So lets summarize: we have a group who
-Is pretty far to the left relative to most of America
-Is wealthy and successful overall
-Dominates a particular industry which is influential in shaping public opinion
24/
-Becoming increasingly powerful in politics, partially driven by ethnic nepotism
- Supports strong nationalist parties/leaders in their own homeland
- Has historical grievances against White Christian civilization
Seems like another group I know 🤔🤔🤔
25/ Anyways this isn't to spread hate towards Indians (Ive let an Indian doctor fondle my balls after all) but its hard to see how this new elites ascension won't cause conflict with the rest of America with radically different views.
