If collecting info from .RU,.UA, Russian, or related sources cyber threat is high. OSINT professionals already know this. Here are some tips for gathering that type of data safely-
1. Use a VPN
2. Use a VM
3. Collect data w/out opening the URL

4. Use a throw-away device or separate device for research if possible
5. Use separate browsers for containing types of data to a browser session or to not cross-contaminate sessions

6. In some instances researchers may want to tether their phone for that IP versus home IP or a burner w/its own data plan
7. In some instances a public IP may be preferable over a home IP
8. Check a URLs tracking prior to opening

9. If sharing info w/others consider a secure messaging APP such as Signal or Threema
10. If Emailing Data consider a secure Email Platform, versus Gmail. For ex, Proton
11. Consider not using Russian based investigative tools during a crisis w/Russia

13. Document Downloads, save the document into another URL versus the source URL--Such as PDFMyURL or Internet Archive.
14. Prior to opening any document scan it with a tool like Virus Total
15. If you can, download documents into a VM

16. If you can, take screenshots of documents versus downloads in the first place by looking at an archive of it versus opening the URL

17. Vet open-source OSINT tools prior to using
18. If going on to Russian Social Media platforms use a research account versus your identity
19. Use a burner or emulator for Russian Mobile apps
20. Consider having time zone on the OS the same as region
