"grassroots is all about creating a positive environment for the players"
"academy football is all about individual player development"
"professional football is all about trophies"
These are dangerous concepts... So what should make a successful coach?
1/5
My most recent answer... consistently positively influencing happiness, development, and performance regardless of the level. There is no reason why grassroots team should not push for a high level of performance, and no reason why professional players should not be happy
Players no longer have to accept being unhappy in an environment, just like they shouldn't have to accept being unhappy in any other workplace/school. They should also expect individual development just as we would expect support with professional development coaches.
And fundamentally, we can never forget that football is a sport, and sport is competitive. There are many physical activities people can participate in that are not competitive, so if they chose a sport, it's most likely they enjoy competing in one form or another. PERFORMANCE.
What make a successful coach is one of the most important questions we have to have an answer for. If we cannot identify what success means within our roles, what are we aiming for and how do we know when we are making progress?
