While the criticism of the factually incorrect things taught by UPSC coaching institutes is good, considering it as a real problem is missing wood for the tree. The true culprit is the syllabus of UPSC designed by the government and the nature of questions asked.
What incentive does a coaching institute have? To help candidates in clearing the exam for which one is taking the coaching. Does FIITJEE teach flat earth hypothesis to JEE Aspirants? No. It has no utility for a JEE candidate. So, let's focus on UPSC now.
The syllabus of topics related to social issues, political ideologies, Indian history and culture etc. are completely in line with the Marxist literature on these subjects. The questions asked are in similar nature. Let's illustrate it by an example.
If UPSC asks a question regarding Bhakti movement, it will be along following line: "Though Bhakti movement preached social equality, it was as a reaction to the external influences of Islam. Critically evaluate the statement." In reality, you are expected to justify it.
Let's frame a question on Bhakti movement from Hindu perspective: "The root of Bhakti is found in Vedas which was further expressed in different ways in different traditions. Discuss and comment on it." The one answering the question is bound to refer to Hindu sources.
A coaching institute has no option but to quote from texts such as Shvetashvatara Upanishad, Bhagvad Gita, Srimad Bhagvat Puran etc. in the teaching materials to give pointers for a correct answer. The whole paradigm is changed based on how we frame it.
This government has shown no efforts to make changes in this regard in past 8 years. Outrage on Twitter isn't going to fix the systemic issues which can easily be fixed by the government. Spend your energy in right direction instead of random outrage.
