The Museum of the Book and Printing of Ukraine (Музей книги та друкарства України) was established in Kyiv in 1972 in a 17th century building in the grounds of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the so-called Monastery of the Caves. 1/
The museum’s collection comprises over 58 000 items - it includes many unique manuscripts dating from as early as the 15th century together with the very first Ukrainian printed publications - the “Apostle” of 1574, and the famous Ostrog Bible of 1581. 2/
In total there are over 800 early printed books and incunabula in the museum's collections, including several Ukrainian books that exist only in a single copy and can thus be found nowhere else. Also notable is the museum's collection of antique printing presses. 3/
The Museum’s displays represent the history of the Ukrainian book, and the Ukrainian book publishing industry from Kyivan Rus right up to modern times. 4/
