The intranational migration of the Brahmins in post-Gupta India. These Brahmins having been bestowed with land grants, ventured into regions previously unknown, clearing the forests and opening up new lands for agriculture and in process Hinduizing the locals.
In Vijayanagara, Vyasatirtha, the head of the Madhava sect recieved similar land grants from emperor Krishnadevaraya. By bestowing such grants, Krishnadevaraya incorporated recently conquered regions into the empire and also revitalized the economy after it having suffered a war.
The Islamization of most of which is modern-day Bangladesh followed the same suit with the only difference been that instead of Brahmins, it was Muslims pioneers and Sufis.
Tribals who practiced slash-and-burn farming, fishing and hunting settled down and came rice cultivators.
