The Russian MOD claims that it has acquired documents belonging to the 4th Rapid Reaction Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine dated to January that supposedly prove they were planning an offensive against the Donbass republics this month
Ofc, from the POV of the Ukrainian government, they would have every right to conduct offensive military operations in Donbass, as they never recognized the republics. Would have been a further breach of Minsk Protocol but that was never real anyway
*If* these documents are legit, they would confirm earlier Russian claims of a planned offensive against Donbass, which would explain both why the Ukrainians started shelling the region so heavily in the weeks leading up to the war & why Russia was in a rush to recognize them
While this is true, the Ukrainian artillery fire reached an intensity not seen since 2015 in February.
(OSCE reports confirm this)
Most of you weren't following us yet & the precious peacekeepers in Western media never cared about Donbass & just ignored it, but what was happening there right before the war was... really bad.
Like, really bad. Also infiltration & assassination attempts against DPR military leadership. It's not proof that a Ukrainian attack was imminent, but it strongly suggests this. It's what I believed at the time, anyway
