Why would Russia target a theatre full of mainly ethnic Russian civilians?
“At least, majority stayed alive after bombing. People are getting out from the rubble.”
Illia Ponomarenko, defence reporter for the Kyiv Independent, messaged: “Now they are getting evacuated from underneath the ruins.”

“People are coming out alive,” Ukraine MP Sergiy Taruta said, though he didn't say how many, and 'still not known if there are any injuries or deaths among people still trapped inside.' MP Lesia Vasylenko said there were reports of injuries but no deaths.

Mayor Petro Andrushchenko said some people had survived the blast. "The bomb shelter held. Now the rubble is being cleared. There are survivors. We don’t know about the (number of) victims yet".
MP Dmytro Gurin said over 1,000 people were in the shelter.

While we await further particulars - interviews, images - some speculate that the event may not be as portrayed by the press, as in this thread:
At a certain point, the lapse of time and lack of particulars come in themselves to count as a kind of evidence?
“I could pinpoint exactly where we should go to learn about survivors, to hear firsthand what it was like to be trapped for endless hours beneath piles of rubble. I know the building & the destroyed homes around it. I know people who are trapped under it.”

As CNN introduce the interviewee in the item linked above they say they “found someone”, without indicating how. Via LinkedIn is a possibility.
