800 yr old 'Periya‌ purāṇa‌m' of Sekkizhar, records the story of
Pulaiya Untouchable Nandnār, one of the Nāyaṉmār, who wasn't allowed in temple because of his birth. And later by grace of Civa [Shiva] he was allowed after passing through fire. This is brahmanic account only.
Oh! Please talk with some sense. It was norm in those days that Untouchables aren't allowed in temple. What you are saying doesn't make any sense at all. He has desire himself to go in temple but due his caste he was unable to do so +
Nandanār later yearned to visit
Chidambaram to see lord Nataraj. He used to tell everyone every day that he will visit the Chidambaram temple the next day, that's why he was pronounced with cruel nickname 'Thirunalaīpovār'& was mocked /3
Forget about all these there are numerous local account to this story
In one of Local version of Story, Brahmins used means to stop his Entry
In diff. local version of Story told by Untouchables Brahmins used fire in order to kill Nandnār.

Even from the account in Periya Purāṇa it's pretty much clear that these castes were not allowed in temple.
It's all recorded in history & accounts that recently only such people are allowed. Before they were not. We have story of other Shiva & Vishnu devotees like kanakdas +
How can someone deny all these things even when we have people like Swami Karpatri Maharaj & Puri Sankaracharya in these days?
Unimaginable.
& FYI, this Red portion is exact translation of Periya Purāṇa. Where others are explanation.
“He remembered his caste,grew frightened”
Such a horror! & Then people like you say * it wAs His Will* Wow!
Ofc of the norms that set in society, being humble devotee he followed things in his own capacity. That's why it was his will probably.
Read his story before this incident,he attempted to go another temple there Nandi moved Slightly in other to give vision of Shiva.
Read about his brahmin land-lord. How he behaved.
& In any case in this story why
Shiva said to get rid of his *BIRTH*??
Why he became brahmin like after crossing fire?
Such a cleaver attempt to deny straight forward truth which is recorded in even mainstream text.
You being not able to recall such Agmic injection is not my problem, simply because text & literature & there interpretation are getting changed for the sake of social agenda.
Before temple Entry movement these were common practice, even castiest Gandhi had to point out.
Even this story is highly Factitious work where some dip in fire & his body transformed,Shiva comming in dream etc these were all written in puranic fashion to explain certain things. Fact is hidden in local folk lores.
Gotta go/ End.
