Da Vinci's 7 Principles (with a bonus 8th at the end)
1. Curiosità (Curiosity)
2. Dimonstratzione (Independent Thinking & Testing Of Knowledge)
3. Sensazione (Refine Your Senses)
4. Sfumato (Embrace Uncertainty)
🧵👇
5. Arte/Scienza (Art & Science, Whole-Brain Thinking)
6. Corporalita (Mind-Body Care)
7. Connessione (Interconnectedness)
They are just as applicable to you as to Leonardo.
I've lived my whole life by these principles. They work.
Let's dive in:
1. Curiosità (Curiosity)
Insatiable curiosity. Passionate curiosity. Unrelenting curiosity.
Pursue every interest. Ask "How come?" and "What if?" about everything.
Many people will find this annoying, but not the right people.
2. Dimonstratzione
Independent Thinking & Testing Of Knowledge
This principle requires you not to take anything for granted.
Rather, you should test every idea and experience life first hand.
And, learn from your mistakes.
You need to play “devil’s advocate” to counter your own beliefs about different aspects of your life. Don't believe everything you hear, even the things you hear inside your own head.
3. Sensazione (Continuous refinement of Your Senses)
He believed that the refinement of all senses are the keys to opening the door of experience, which leads to knowledge and skill.
4. Sfumato (Embrace Uncertainty)
My personal specialty, after curiosity.
"A willingness to embrace ambiguity, paradox, and uncertainty is the key life principle of Da Vinci. He had a unique ability to understand the extreme opposites of opinions and phenomenon. He was also…
…able to explore unknowns and revel in uncertainty. Most of us are uncomfortable with not knowing something or unanswerable questions, so we avoid anything out of our control."
5. Arte/Scienza (Art & Science, Whole-Brain Thinking)
He embraced the balance between Science and Art: Logic and imagination.
He was the original mind-mapper. Representing his thoughts with drawings, flowcharts, etc. He didn't just see what is. He saw what could be.
6. Corporalita (Mind-Body Care)
Cultivation of grace and poise. The integration of mind and body. He strongly believed that if he wanted his mind to perform at optimum levels, he needed to keep his body in perfect shape as well.
7. Connessione (Interconnectedness)
Systems Thinking — a strong recognition and appreciation for the connectedness of all phenomena. Ability to take vast amounts of information and create simple routines, lists and organization.
8. Sprezzatura
From the Renaissance Men, but I'm not sure if it came from Do Vinci.
Doing a difficult thing in a way that looks easy. Graceful conduct or performance without apparent effort.
Truly the sign of a Master.
Summary.:
1. Curiosità (Curiosity)
2. Dimonstratzione (Independent Thinking)
3. Sensazione (Refine Your Senses)
4. Sfumato (Embrace Uncertainty)
5. Arte/Scienza (Art + Science)
6. Corporalita (Mind-Body Care)
7. Connessione (Systems Thinking)
8. Sprezzatura (Difficult → easy)
That's a wrap!
