Real will use transitions, exploiting Barcelona's free-flowing system to bypass the rest-defence structure.
However, I still wouldn't sacrifice the value of Dani Alves for added solidity of Araujo.
Rather, suffocate them w/ possession & pin outlets so deep they can't get out.
This doesn't mean I'd bench Araujo. He has to start but at CB, not RB.
Xavi's system is well-defined but when I say free-flowing, I mean in the final third there is bound to be a LOT of movement, often disrupting a clear structure.
Real Madrid can use this to bypass the press.
But I'd rather bet on defending with the ball than hoping Araujo will stop Vinicius, which he can, but it's still not ideal.
With the inverted RB, we can retain our compactness, making counter-pressing much easier.
And a good counter-press is our best antidote to transitions.
Not to mention the added value of Dani Alves in possession - finding runners, establishing superiority in the middle third and playmaking from the deep/wide areas. Key!
To me, that heavily outweighs the solidity we get with a RB Araujo.
Big test but I'm confident we can do it.
The front three picks themselves as all of Ferran, Aubameyang and Dembele have been excellent.
However, don't be surprised to see Gavi as the false winger because we will need to keep Real's midfield overloaded & under control.
Still, I'd potentially rather have real width. 🤔
