This won't get uncovered because it NEVER happened
This Frequent blame goes to Koon Pandya [King Nedumaran] was a king who ruled Madurai around the 7th century and Shaiva Poet Saint Sambandar [Campantar] infamous for his mฮฑssฮฑcre of 8000 Jain
priests during his reign.
Leave a side of the Primary source.
There is NO contemporary or even immediately late contemporary evidence that existed for such a claim.
Other than 3-4 screenshots circulating from years on Twitter, there are NO JAIN sources have ever claimed such
Atrocities.
Meenakshisundaran a well know Tamil Scholar has criticized and has pointed out this problem in his 3 books regarding this issue.
He says the Campantar was broad-minded and has his later work critical of extreme and insincere ascetic practices of Jains and Buddhists
Even IF we consider FOLKLORE, the Story goes in this way :
The king was a Saivite initially, later becoming a Jain. His wife was the Queen Mangayarkarasi, a Saivite. One day the King became sick and Queen invited Jain monks to cure but they failed.
Then she invited Shaivite Brahmin Sambandar who cured the King with Vibhuti and Mantras. The king discredit Jainism and he reconverted to Saivite. This made the Jain Monks angry and they burnt the House of Sambandar.
So there was a challenge between the
Sambandar & Jain Monks
The writing of both Sambandar and Jain monks on leaf was set fiฯ€e but writing of Sambandae did not buฯ€n but the writing done by the Jain monks turned to ashes.
The second challenge was floating manuscript leaves on the Vaigai river.
Again Sambandar won the challenge
Challenge was, whoever lost both Anal vaadham and Punal vaadham
Will convert to the faith of the person who won.Jain Monk refused to convert &this led to the impaIement of 8000 Jain monks
Puranic account has shared the same story.Sambandar was a seven-year-old child at that time
He died at age of 16 years. He was a proud Brahmin and proud Tamilian.
He had criticized Jains and Buddhists many times. But the criticism was on their practice. He never wished d*ath for anyone
He even mentioned that the Jain used to pluck hairs. Then how hairs are there?
So neither the sources nor the painting proves such allegations on Pandya ruler and Saint boy Thirugnana
