MEGA THREAD β‘ποΈβ‘ on Westminster system(π¬π§) of governance that our Semi colonial Semi Feudal Secularist Status quo Frankenstein Republic follows or rather i would say copied it. We'll see what is this and how it works and is it good for our motherland. So let's begin 𧡠1/
So why it's called Westminster system? It is known as Westminster system because There is a palace of Westminster in London where this model was developed and used to this till date we also call it Parliamentary system. 2/
So a Parliamentary system is that system where you choose your local lords oops "Representatives" for a fixed time of 4 or 5 yrs and in turn they represent your constituency in house where they shout like 5yr old kids. They draft bills there which becomes law. 3/
So if we see this isn't perfect democratic model as people don't elect head of state or head of govt directly. These representatives choose among themselves to be appointed as PM, and rest of council of ministers. 4/
And in this system Head of State just works as rubber stamp for Govt and it's machinery just like Queen in UK. And technically we call ourselves as Republic but at same time masses don't elect head of state directly, instead they use electoral college of MPs...
Who elects head of state who could benifit them using a method called "Single Transferable vote system". Which is too complex and confusing to MPs themselves let alone innocent mass. So we are not a proper Republic also, we failed in that also. 5/
Majority of country who follow this system are either member of looser's club (Commonwealth), or British Dominions like π¦πΊπ¨π¦π³πΏπ¬π§. Majority of countries who use this have bicameral house means 2 houses so that it gets approved by lords of both houses. 6/
One house is supposedly called Lower house and other house called Upper house. But surprisingly lower house is more powerful. One house keeps direct elected lords from constituencies and other houses Sub National representatives. 7/
Essence of Sub nationalism is deep entrenched in this system where other states are treated as kinda nation within nation. Every state representatives begs for their fair share of their states, creating a cutthroat competition which leads to chaos and hatred against other states-
Which leads to sub nationalism for regionalists who get power and backing from democratic setup itself under a fancy word called "Federalism". Which serves as cannon fodder for possible Balkanisation given that circumstances meet. 8/
Now let's analyse wether this system is good or suitable for governance of our motherland or not 9/.
Clearly not, a straight forward no, I'll tell you why? With examples
Apart from sh*tty idealistic talks about this pathetic system like muh people representation and what not. It practically defeats all the purpose of effective descision making system, due to its sheer complexity and slow descision making tools that it offers. 11/
What i mean about Complexity is the fact having 2 voluminous separate house for legislation, which makes descision making so slow making it obsolete in some cases. 1st pass the bill in large 534 member house then in 2nd big house. It's simply very slow..-
Then it goes to rubber stamp head of state I mean President to get approval. Well why you need his permission if you got the people's mandate? It simply makes no sense in those countries who follow this system and don't have queen/King to consult with him or her. 12/
Here head of state is rubber stamp and head of council of ministers real head of state again what was the need to create one 1 more post for basically smiling, awarding and doing nothing except stamping or signing bills?. 13/
Commander in chief of Armed Forces is President of India. Well no he just simply can't order Troops to declare war, he has to consult council of ministers. Man what was the need to make him as CIC when he/she can't take descision of its own. 14/
No no bro but he is head of state? Yes but for what practical purposes. Suppose you need to clean your garden you hires a gardener to do it but gardener hires another person to Clean your garden on his command, Does it makes sense to call another person to clean? Simply not. 15/
Plus opposition rattles every bill of ruling party which in govt, they shout like 5 yrs kid from which lollipop has been snatched. They walkout, protest, which delays the law making or descision making too late sometimes for couple of months. 16/
Technically opposition stays to do fair criticism of ruling govt. But this never happened in history of Westminster system not even in π¬π§ itself. 17/
For all purposes it fails on every ground and aspects as far as our motherland is concerned. It's inefficient, complex , slow and colonial. It's only suited for those countries who are rich, holds less population or have small territory not for massive sub continent size country.
Imo my fair view. A presidential form of government system will be fine for our country with its own indegenious hybrid system which suits our motherland and civilization. And having unicameral house is must as it results in rapid descision making. 19/
21st century will belong to those countries who can make quick descisions and laws. Not those who still struck in colonial era old feudal style governance model of Small freaking Island. 20/
