BSE INX GA and NSE's IFSC both give global access to Indian investors.
BSE INX GA gives Indians access to over 135 exchanges across 33 countries in 23 currencies worldwide.
Indians can invest in US stocks through NSE's IFSC.
So what are the differences? Here is a thread 🧵-
⚡️There is a big difference between what you can invest in.
BSE INX GA gives you access to thousands of stocks across 135 exchanges.
NSE's IFSC gives you access to 50 stocks in the US markets.
⚡️Even if you buy shares of the same company on both exchanges, you are buying a different product.
NSE's IFSC creates unsponsored deposit receipts for the stocks, which is what you hold in the GIFT City Demat account.
With BSE INX GA, you get shares from its home exchange.
⚡️Both platforms store your stocks very differently.
NSE's IFSC stores the assets in GIFT City.
This is a different jurisdiction from the rest of India so LRS rules apply here too.
In BSE's case, your assets are with the partner brokers. These are insured up to 500K USD.
This is split up as 250K USD for stocks and up to 250K USD for any cash balance you hold with them.
⚡️ BSE INX GA is open to AMCs, PMSs and AIFs.
This opens up the door for professionally managed global portfolios.
As of now, I am unable to find anything from NSE's IFSC documentation to suggest the same is possible there.
⚡️ NSE's IFSC requires you to go through a broker, BSE INX GA does not.
This means your costs for investing on NSE's platform can be higher.
Brokers can charge up to 2.5% for brokerage transactions. This is against BSE INX GA's 1$ per trade.
