compilation of inscriptions written by the companions/individuals contemporaneous with the prophet ص
(will update the thread periodically, iA)
1. inscription by zayd ibn thabit (ر), the scribe of the prophet and the one responsible for the compilation of the 'uthmanic quran:
"oh Allah forgive zayd ibn thabit and whoever reads this writing and then says ameen, Lord of the worlds (Ameen!) Lord of moses and aaron
in the name of Allah most compassionate, most merciful, oh Allah hear and respond, you are the all-hearing, all-seeing"
location: medina
2. not a companion but is written by 'abd al shams ibn al-mugheerah, a nobleman from the quraysh, one of whose sons accepted islam at the conquest of makkah. the inscription is likely pre-islamic but may very well have been written in the lifetime of the prophet.
reads "in your name, oh Allah, i am 'abd al shams ibn al-mugheerah, and he asks his Lord for forgiveness"
location: tabuk
3. inscription possibly written by al-fadhl ibn 'abbas, the older brother of ibn 'abbas. cousin to the prophet ص, he is well-known for being the one whose face the prophet turned away when he caught him staring at a lady during hajj:
"oh Allah forgive al-fadhl ibn 'abbas ameen"
this may also have been written by al-fadhl's younger brother, tammam, as we find the same formula but with tammam's name in an inscription nearby (maybe they both wrote their own inscriptions? the handwriting does seem different in both)
