Today's lecture is about "nationalism in #Europe", and what the lecturer is describing is what we call "tribalism" in #Nigeria and the rest of #Africa.
"When I lived in #Germany, there was only 1 non-ethnic German in the Bundestag. That's how Europeans are wired; #Denmark for the Danes, #Serbia for Serbians. I have a Swedish friend who's father is African-American, has loved in #Sweden all his life, but has never been Swedish."
"The main reason for the formation of the EU was to connect the various ethnic groups in #Europe (read countries) economically so they could trade with each other rather than fight. But they had to go through a lot of bloodshed to get there."
I've said this so many times.
"People don't take the role of ethnicity in World War 2 as serious as they should. #Germany couldn't, for example understand why #England would ally with #Russia against them since they all had Germanic roots."
"Religion is a good way to unite people despite their ethnic differences. #Islam has done this very well. In my opinion, economics is an even better way as #America has shown. The failure of the #SovietUnion shows that ideology does not work. #China has learned this."
