In my opinion,I think the factor responsible for this isn’t lack of role definition rather the lack of public understanding of the roles of nurses. How do you make an ordinary man understand that having a good neurosurgeon to perform a brain surgery is as important as having 1/3
a brilliant nurse to care for this patient perioperatively? To the public, those who are well paid in the sector requires “brains & skills” to perform their roles while the nurses do not necessarily need that to “care”. After all, anybody can care. So the former are being 2/3
Paid for their “brains & skills” while the later are being paid for what they do which is just to “care”. Things we begin to change when we as nurses start to raise our voices to make the public understand what exactly we do and how important it is to the care of our patient 3/3.
To add, no one can tell our stories like we’ll do, enough of the silence!
