A number of those men return to find their wives have been committing zinā. If one looks at the cases in which married women commit zinā there, then many have the common factor of an absent husband.
Men must protect their wives from zinā, especially by satisfying their needs.
In fact, the Imām of the Żāhirīs, Ibn Ĥazm, considered it obligatory that a man have intercourse with his wife once a month.
Thus according to his Żāhirī fiqh, a man should not be leaving his wife for months.
Moreover, on the same page Ibn Ĥazm states that a woman should not adorn herself when she leaves for a need. This demonstrates that he did not think women should be going out often, but rather only when they have a need to do so.
