5 Psychology Lessons that will trick you into Crushing Big Goals
Summary of The Magic of Thinking Big - David Schwartz
//𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱//
But first, why should you think big?
Well, how big you think is what sets the limits in your life.
If your goal is just to get graduate, and get a decent job,
You will never think of an idea to build a billion-dollar company.
2/15
And that's fine, if you're happy.
But your goals shouldn't sell yourself short.
They should help you create the fulfilling life you want.
You can't reach your potential, let's call it 10 - if you're only thinking until 4.
That's why you should follow these 5 steps:
3/15
1. Questions and Creativity
Step 1 is to answering the right questions.
How can you leave a special impact?
How can you live the life you dream of?
How did someone else get the things you want?
If you answer these Qs and don't compromise, you'll think big.
4/15
2. Environment
The environment we live in determines our outcome.
If you want to be successful, your job is to create an environment that forces you too.
Here's how to do that:
5/15
- Hang around with people who are closer to your goals than you
- Remove distractions & temptations
from your environment
(EX: If you want to lose weight do not have junk food in the house)
- Don't hang around with people that lead you into temptations, and bad habits.
6/15
3. Attack Fear Through Action
Fear and overthinking come from the time before action.
The way you attack it is by taking action.
Waiting and time will just increase the fear.
Taking action and attacking fear is hard, but waiting only makes it harder.
7/15
4. Turn Failure Into Success
Never focus on the failure, because you will find millions of ways you can fail.
Focus on the WHY you want to do it.
And when you fail, use that defeat as a lesson - a.k.a another reason why your next go will succeed.
8/15
4A) This is an unfair advantage.
Once you realize this, you realize that the outcome of action and going after what you want is always positive.
Every "failure" is another piece of experience you can take into the next battle.
9/15
5. Sell yourself to your mind.
You need to sell yourself to yourself.
What this means is showing yourself why YOU can do it.
Similar to how an ad shows you how a product can provide a result.
This process will help you eliminate excuses. Here's how to do it:
10/15
5A) Excuses
Write down the excuses, i.e the reasons why you think you can't do it.
It may be
- "I'm not good-looking enough to DM that girl"
- "I'm not smart enough to start that business"
- "I don't have the good enough network to build a company"
...
11/15
5B) Find reasons why you can
Now you need to eliminate these excuses by showing yourself you can do it:
12/15
- Write down the good qualities you have that will help you solve that issue/outweigh it
- Write down people who achieved your goal who lack the quality you think you lack - even more.
Write this like an advertisement, until you're sold.
13/15
Summary:
1. Think big by using your creativity and questions
2. Create an environment that forces you to reach your goals.
3. Attack Action With Fear
4. Turn Failure Into Success
5. Sell Yourself To Yourself
