10 things every man must learn from Thomas Shelby
A THREAD:
Remain calm under pressure
There are two kinds of people:
One who lets pressure break them,
And the other who leverage the external pressure to make themselves fookin' better.
Those who don't succumb to pressure often outsmart those who do, as it is the case with Thomas.
How to stay calm?
- Take control of your body language.
Don't fookin' overreact to everything.
- Take deep and consistent breaths.
- Expose yourself to less challenging simulations of the situations you are about to face.
Never "settle" down
Racetracks? Not enough.
Production factories? Not enough.
The entirety of Birmingham? Not fookin’ enough.
It's never about what you already accomplished,
But about what are you gonna do next.
The day you stop growing is the day you start dying.
Stress in moderation is good
- It will keep you on your toes
- It will improve your performance
- It will help you make better decisions
- It will make you more aware of the threats looming around to take you down.
Stress in the right quantity is a fookin' boon.
Never lose sight of the purpose
Most people compromise on their bigger purpose for short-term gains.
If you let instant gratification fook you up, you are gonna live a regretful and shallow life.
Bearing the temporary pain for long-term pleasure is the way to go.
Never take your family for granted
Your family is everything.
Even after you achieve all that you dreamt of,
If you don't have anyone to share that with, it'd all be for nothing.
Keep your family close and be grateful for them.
Control the narrative
Don't fall for someone else's frame.
Thomas does this brilliantly by asking questions that weren't related to the prior conversation. It puts him in charge of the convo.
Ironically, make sure you don't let someone else use this against you and slip by.
Turning trash into treasures
Thomas not only transforms lemons into lemonades,
But literally makes the worst into the best.
And the way he does that is by not succumbing to the short term emotions,
But by looking at the bigger picture and acting with patience.
Tell the fookin' truth
If let your reputation get stained because of your 'lying habit', it'd be really hard to establish trust.
And without trust, you don't stand a chance. Neither in the business world nor in your personal life.
Honesty isn't a weakness. It takes courage.
Understand what 'they' want
If you can make others dependent on you by listening to what they want and providing it to them,
You won't have to worry about fulfilling what you want in life.
Thomas makes sure he 'hears' what others want the most in life and get them on his side.
