'To ensure your security - vote French' β€” French cartoon by Ralph Soupault (1936) showing a Frenchman defending himself from the forces of Nazism, socialism, communism and masonry. Published in Le Charivari magazine.
Soupault was a French far-right (and later collaborationist) cartoonist active in the 30s and 40s. His work was typically anti-communist, anti-masonic and anti-semitic, and largely published in Le Charivari and Je suis partout.
Pre-1936, Hitler and Nazism were also regular targets of his cartoons. These two were both published on the cover of Le Charivari magazine in 1934, the left captioned 'The Butcher of Berlin' and the right 'I shall go to Versailles!'
Soupault's attitude towards Nazism softened after 1936, being openly favourable by the time of the war.
In this 1941 cartoon, the hands of Judaism, Free France and Masonry hold France back from the Axis: 'Don’t wait any longer if you want to be part of the family'.
