Remarkable that despite decades of Foreign Aid money put into education systems, in many countries most 10-year-olds are illiterate.

Almost everywhere boys suffer from greater "learning poverty" (sc. illiteracy) than girls of the same age.

PS I don't believe for a minute that anyone knows the exact literacy rate among children in Niger or Afghanistan. What's interesting are the general magnitudes and overall comparisons.
