One way to read this: a man who believes that mass immigration will be a unilateral weapon of victory for himself is suggesting here that he will only be willing to tolerate his domestic opponents provided that they work with him to ensure their own powerlessness and irrelevance.
It does not of course follow that he is correct about the effects of immigration; but it is notable here how well the contours of his beliefs apparently align with the right critique of the GOP as managed opposition which exists to provide token resistance to Democrats, no more.
The “emerging Democratic majority” thesis is probably the single most poisonous idea of recent times. It bound race and immigration to ideology and party in the mind of partisans and ideologues, some in fear and some in exaltation, and made the entire contest existential.
