Some rulings in the Hanbali madhab relating to interactions with kuffār:
1) It is haram to give Salam to them first
2) If they give Salam to you, it is obligatory to respond, but only with وعليكم
3) It is also haram to ask them first "how are you" or similar greetings
(1/6)
4) If a person accidentally says Salam to a kaafir first, it is recommended to say to them "Return to me my Salam"
5) It is permissible to make du'aa for Allah to guide them or to honour them (with the intention of honour in the form of Islam).
(2/6)
6) It is also permissible to make du'aa for Allah to increase their wealth and children, with the intention that they pay more jizyah or they are guided to Islam by that
7) If they sneeze, it is disliked to say يرحمك اللّه, but it is permissible to say يهديكم الله
(3/6)
8) It is disliked to shake hands with a kaafir
9) It is haram to congratulate them, to give condolences and to visit them when they are sick.
And in one opinion in the madhab: these are permissible if it is hoped for them to be guided to Islam
(4/6)
10) It is disliked to take advice and guidance from kuffār without a need
11) Likewise going to a kaafir doctor without a need and taking medication from them without knowing its contents
12) It is haram to stand up for a kaafir or to put him at the front of a gathering
(5/6)
13) It is haram to visit, participate or congratulate them on any of their religious celebrations by ijma'
