This is why your cold-emails for graduate school applications are getting ignored.

Part 2
Let's go👇
1. You are writing a generic email without explaining your FIT/RELEVANCE to the lab.
You can prove your relevance by briefly highlighting
• skills that will be valuable to the lab
• theoretical background necessary to conduct research
• directed enthusiasm by asking insightful questions about their work.

If you write a blanket email without a demonstration of your understanding of their work, it's worse than writing no email.
2. Addressing the professors by wrong names.
Trust me, there's no bigger red flag for profs than this!🤐
This generally happens when you send out bulk emails.

3. Addressing them with " Desr Sir/Ma'am"
While this may not always lead to ignorance of your email, but it would be really better for your chances to at least look at the name of the prof.
Recommend format: Dear Dr. Last Name.

4. You're asking profs to review your documents.
No, profs aren't supposed to tell you your chances of selection by performing a review of your CV & SoP.
If you want to establish contact with them, win their interest & curiosity by proving why you're the best fit for them!

This is why cold-emails are so important.
I would take 20 % of the space to talk about myself. (My education/future plans)
80% will be about how I am relevant for them (by proving how I can add to lab)
There's a difference & some of you are not paying attention to that!❌
