It is said that Kumarila Bhatta who defeated the Bauddhas and re-established Vaidika dharma, gave up his life by immolating himself in a pyre made of burning rice husk (рддреБрд╖рд╛рдЧреНрдирд┐) which is a slow and most painful way of committing suicide, as an atonement for guru-droha.
In the Sanskrit movie on Adi Sankaracharya, Kumarilabhatta is shown as having only one eye, having lost an eye when he jumped from the top of a hill. Whereas Sankara Digvijaya says no harm came to him, when he jumped from the top of the hill.

"He then fell from the top uttering these words 'If the Vedas are true, I, who have complete faith in them, shall not suffer any harm'. He rolled down the hills like a ball of cotton. Would not the Vedas save the believer from the effects of pain?"
Sankara Digvijaya 1.75, 77
How is it that Kumarila bhatta is shown as having only one eye in the Sanskrit movie? Doesn't this contradict the Madhaviya Sankara Digvijaya verses quoted above?
It is usually said that Kumarila Bhatta lost an eye for having used the word 'рдпрджрд┐' (if) which indicates that he had a little doubt regarding the authority of the Vedas.
But, Kumarila Bhatta again used 'рдпрджрд┐' while jumping from the hilltop. Yet, he was not harmed by the fall.

i.e. Though the word рдпрджрд┐ is indicative of doubt, it is used here to show certainty, as in рдпрджрд┐ рд╡реЗрджрд╛рдГ рдкреНрд░рдорд╛рдгрдВ рд╕реНрдпреБрдГ.
