The 3 Common mistakes you're probably making that mess up your sleep
THREAD
I work with a lot of clients that struggle to sleep well at night
And 95% of them make these 3 mistakes
The good news is that they're easily correctable
1) Too much fasting
People wanna save time
Skipping a meal is a great way to do that
The problem is for someof you
The stressor of missing a meal pushes you over the edge
Being overly stressed due to work/finance/relationships is taxing on your body
Add to that inadequate satiety/nutrients from your diet
and its a recipe for disaster
Your blood sugar drops which causes cortisol (stress hormone) to skyrocket
Yes your ancestors did fast more
But they weren't chronically stressed like you are
Start eating more (proteins + fats with some carbs)
Especially if your stress/sleep is being affected
2) Terrible evening light environments
How much blue light messes up your sleep can't be understated
Light pollutes our senses at night
Screens
LED lightbulbs
Street lamps
The light wavelength is similar to that of the midday sun
This light keeps your brain alert
That makes it harder to shut off at night
because your melatonin (sleep hormone) is being suppressed
Avoid using artificial light sources and use natural sources of light like candles/fire
Red lightbulbs are an option too
If that's not practical for you
A good pair of blue light blockers with a reddish/orange-tinted lens is a must
You don't want to use the clear lens ones because they only block out 40% of the blue light
Fix your light environment if you wanna sleep better
3) Not being active enough
Society today is programmed to be sitting at desk in front of a screen for the majority of the day
but your genes evolved to be outside
Moving
Lifting
Running
Building
Many of you today are mentally tired
but the physical demands of your body are left to the wayside
You feel lethargic but agitated at the same time as the unused energy flows through your mind
This combo often makes it hard for you to get your rest at night
You need to stimulate & tire out the body
It doesn't have to be an intense HIIT workout at the gym
Walking is the fundamental activity you could all use more of
Bonus points if it's in Nature with greenery to turn on the parasympathetic nervous system
Your rest/digest mode
