Coomaraswamy on Unity in diversity.
"Those who know India best and can think in the terms of Indian thought, are more impressed by her cultural unity than by her apparent diversity"
+
"There are unities more essential and more important than any political unity; and these are based on common understandings of the ultimate ends of life rather than upon its immediate purposes, as to which there can be an almost endless variety of notions"
+
This cultural unity is something that troubles certain sections of our intelligentia the most. It is too religious for their taste. They seek to replace this with secular alternatives like allegiance to constitution or territorial nationalism as the unifying factor.
