Let's go.
Tools needed:
1. Keywords Everywhere (Very affordable < $10)
2. Answer the public (Free)
3. Low Fruits (Optional, Paid)
First, let's get into the reason why you should target low competition keywords.
Simple.
Because it is easy to rank when you get started.
Your site is new and fresh, you need traffic, right?
So, you first target those hidden gems AKA The low competition keywords.
Here's how you get started:
1. Jot down all the topics that come to your mind for your sub-niche.
Example: Epoxy Woodworking is a sub-niche (under woodworking) and I want to write more about it.
Now, export all the keyword ideas you can find on Google.
1. Google's Autosuggest with Keywords Everywhere extension.
Notice if I just append single letters to the keyword, I am getting many variations of it.
Try to export as many variations as you can with Google's auto-suggestion.
2. Related keywords section
Keywords everywhere can share metrics on related keywords too.
Export it.
3. Same goes for long tail keywords.
You can export all of these keywords in a sheet.
Now you must have got a mega list of topics for just "epoxy woodworking".
Time to do some magic.
Filter in ascending order of traffic for all keywords.
Search the 1st term on Google.
If you find any low authority (DA less than 15) site ranking in the top 15 for that term, you choose that keyword.
That's it & this works almost all the time.
The logic behind this is if any low authority site was able to rank for it, you can outrank it with better content.
Now just replicate this process for all the keywords and you have a list of low competition keywords you can target.
Btw, you can do the same via @low_fruits too, but it can cost you $25 for every 2000 keywords you analyze.
Feel free to use any method at your convenience.
