There are many projects monitoring infrastructure in SE Asia and monitoring Chinese aid and official financing commitments around the world. But there have been few data-led efforts to make apples vs apples comparisons of disbursements by China and other development partners 2/
This project will build on the amazing Pacific Aid Map. But it's a much bigger endeavour, given that the nations of SE Asia are much larger, as is the quantum of aid and official development finance supplied by development partners 3/ pacificaidmap.lowyinstitute.org
I'm looking forward to seeing the final results of this project and making my own analysis of the data, and the broader implications for the region's economic and geopolitical outlook. ENDS
