When I thought I am done writing SOP's, here come another form.
I wrote this few days ago to apply for a traffic research mentorship program. The format I adopted is suited for that and not for graduate school application.
So in writing your SOP for graduate school or something similar. The first thing is to put your first draft (all your thought in writing)
Then start to break them down into paragraphs and finally read, rewrite, edit for grammatical errors.
Your first paragraph can be a summary of you or your motivation depending on what you want to prioritize. Both should come within the first two paragraphs.
Avoid too lengthy paragraphs and each paragraph should be unique and slightly independent. The flow should be consistent.
If you can use Word editors like Grammarly and avoid long sentences if there are shorter alternatives.
If you are writing to a British reviewers use British English, to American reviewers use American English.
Full stop = British
Period = American
Here is a sample of SOP I used for my PhD applications. I can do better if I am to write it now πŸ˜„. That was my best then.
Hopefully, I will share the success of this traffic research mentorship application soon.
Have a great day!
