Building An Islamic Library in 5 Stages:
Preface:
Before buying any books, you should give deep thought as to whether you really need a personal library or not, and whether this should be a priority for you when considering your current situation.
(1/38)
Books are very expensive and thus only a profitable investment if you are going to make real use from them in the long term.
If you're going to use them mainly 'for motivation' or for aesthetics, then there are much cheaper alternatives.
(2/38)
If you don't know Arabic or are not consistently studying it with a time frame in which you want to reach proficiency in the language, then it's not logical to spend large amounts of money on Arabic books which you won't even be able to read in the foreseeable future.
(3/38)
Most importantly, these books are for those who are serious about seeking Islamic knowledge to a high level. Which means decades to come of constant studying.
If that's not your long term goal, it's probably better for you to spend that money on Sadaqah Jāriyah instead
(4/38)
If it's just a hobby for you, or something you want to do part time, I wouldn't suggest going beyond Stage 1 of the books mentioned.
If you need to read or reference any other books, then you can just use online resources when the need arises.
(5/38)
Also, the books I list here are mostly for reading or for references. I mostly won't be mentioning beginner and intermediate level books you'd study with a Sheikh.
Eg in Nahw you might study:
1) Al Aājurumiyyah
2) Mulhatul I'irāb
3) Qatr al Nadā
4) Alfiyyah ibn Malik
(6/38)
I might only mention an explanation of the 4th level book, such as Alfiyyah ibn Malik in this case.
You'd need the other level books too of course, in order to study them. But they wouldn't be making up the bulk of your library.
