So you have two simple tasks:

a. You assume the role of a doctor..
And every doctor knows that prescription without diagnosis is illegal.
you diagnose by..
b. Asking open ended questions
These are questions that don’t have a yes or no answer..
Your goal is to get them to talk..
E.g…

You can’t pitch if you don’t know what they really want and how badly..
So diagnose like this:

“What and what have you tried out?”
“If you don’t solve this problem fast.. what would that mean for …”
And only when you’ve ascertained what’s holding them back and their objections
You can now proceed to the next step:

I learnt this particular technique from a negotiation book…
And it is wickedly effective
it’s called mirroring and labelling
You do this by simply repeating the last couple of sentences they said and summarizing what they’ve said back to them..
E.g:

Contrary to what you think listening is much much harder than many people assume.
Labelling especially is vital because you can’t help them cure a problem they haven’t admitted to having..
