Does the Shari'ah promise maidens (حور) for the men of Paradise?
There are a number of explicit verses that mention that the men of Paradise will be married to the حور العين.
There are also a number of Hadith that mention the men of Paradise will married to the حور العين
The classical scholars of Tafsir are in agreement that the these verses refer to other-worldly beautiful and fair females with gorgeous eyes etc.
You'll even find mention of حور العين in books of Aqidah.
However, some see this as patriarchal and so have attempted to re-invent the wheel and have come up with explanations contrary to that which is in the tradition.
Explanation 1:
What's meant is that they are a physical embodiment of your deeds in this world.
They rely upon a Tafsir attributed to the Hanbali scholar Abdul Qadir Al Jeelaani
Comments:
Firstly, there is debate surrounding the authenticity of that Tafsir to Al Jeelaani.
Secondly, does this Tafsir really change much?
You still end up with men having beautiful women that are physical embodiments of these men's deeds in this world as wives.
Explanation 2:
As you grow closer to Allah, your desire for sexual pleasure in the hereafter will dissolve. The sweetness of being with God is endlessly and infinitely greater than any moment of sexual pleasure or ecstasy in the hereafter.
Only those who haven't tasted this spiritual pleasure and are still engulfed by animalistic pleasure take such a primitive understanding of these verses.
And the Qur'an sought to placate those who could not go beyond their animalistic pleasure by using such language
as otherwise they would not have accepted the Prophet's call.
Comment:
Can we have a stronger spiritual link to God like the companions did?
They understood and took these verses at their apparent and did not re-interpret them and if they heard such an interpretation, they would ex-communicate said person and make their blood permissible.
Al Ghazali says that we know with certainty that if someone was to express rejection of the Hoor whilst amongst the companions, they would have rushed to kill him and they would have taken this as denial of Allah and His Messenger.
The understanding of the companions > The 'understanding' of the deformists.
Also, who said that the pleasure one will have with the حور will solely be a physical/sexual one?
Rather, the experience with the حور is both a physical and a spiritual one.
