Yorùbá Orìkì names and meaning.
Yorúbá Oriki names are names Yorúbá people give to their children for symbolic reasons.
In Yorúbá culture, names are choosen for their meaning and are presumed to be fateful, hence the proverb oruko omo ni ro omo" (a child is influenced by
His/her name or a child's name determines what he/she becomes or does).
A possible etymology of Oríkí is a combination meaning the "head" or "destiny" and kí or ki, meaning a "salute" or "greeting".
