I've reviewed 100+ resumes in the last two days.
You don't want to make these 5 mistakes on your resume.
(A THREAD) ↓
Before we start,
- The intention here is to provide feedback, not to criticize.
- Making resumes and keeping them up-to-date is not easy.
- Reducing mistakes in resumes has higher chances of someone looking into it for a longer time, increasing the chance of getting the job.
1️⃣ Bad Formatting
- Make sure the alignments of columns are correct.
- You use a better/readable font.
- Readable texts, links.
- Proper headings.
- Bulleted points.
- People scan your resume at a go. Better formatting helps in doing that.
- Formatting reflects you.
2️⃣ Missing Information
- Missing contact information like email, phone number, or any other means.
- GitHub link, project links, and any other professional accomplishments.
- Social handles.
- At the same time, reduce unnecessary stress on hobbies and irrelevant skills.
3️⃣ Non-Copiable
- Your resume shouldn't be in an image format.
- Usually, people do data entry on receiving the resume. Allow them to copy-paste details from your resume to their system. Typing is error-prone.
- Make it in a PDF/Doc format with texts copiable.
4️⃣ Spelling & Grammar Mistakes
- Too many spelling and grammatical mistakes show you are not serious about it.
- Do self-reviews multiple times.
- Use tools like Grammarly to draft texts.
5️⃣ Resume is not an ebook, nor a paragraph
- No need to make the resume like a 10 pages ebook. Hardly anyone will read everything.
- At the same time, it shouldn't be half a page.
- Keep a balance in introducing your projects and accomplishments at a high level.
To Summarize,
→ Poor Formatting
→ Missing Information
→ Keeping it Non-Copiable
→ Spelling & Grammar Mistakes
→ The Length of it.
Read the details above.
That's all for now!
