What did Jesus actually Look Like?
A thread on the physical appearance, genetics, and personality of Christ
Here’s what we know!
First of all, Jesus was a Jew. He was not an ‘Arab’, if you’re to take historical accuracy with any seriousness at all there’s no debate that Jesus was a Jew. He belonged to the tribe of Judah. Now what did ancient 1st century Jews look like?
Fortunately we have frescoes from Israel from Antiquity. Let’s see what they looked like!
Clearly some of them seemed very Sephardic Looking to say the least. It’s possible that Jesus would’ve had similar features but not certain.
In this fresco we see a bunch of read heads. Did you know that almost 11% of Jewish males have some amount of red hair? Esau and David were noted redheads!
These frescoes show that the Jewish people had been quite Hellenized and many of them honestly weren’t radically that different from mainstream society. In some eras it would’ve been very similar to how Jews are now in the Western World.
These people don’t even look Arab. Jesus easily could’ve passed as many different ethnicities.
Within decades of his life Romans were already saying that Jesus was the illegitimate son of a Roman soldier. That probably means that he did have some ‘Roman’ features like an Aquiline nose. This guy looks very Jewish but it’s probably not accurate.
What do we know about Mary. There’s references to her having really pale skin. Based on descriptions she likely had light hair. This probably isn’t too far off.
I could probably do another thread on what exactly Mary looked like but my conclusion is that she probably looked like Zosia Mamet. Dead serious – this is what Mary looked like. She was attractive and guys would’ve been interested in her if we take the history literally.
Another short tangent is that Levantines are different than Gulf Arabs or people from Yemen or Oman. The prophet Muhammad happened to have red hair. You might not believe me but his 34th great grandson is a literal ginger from Syria.

Speaking of Syrians. This is what an actual family from Syria looks like. Again, Syrian Arabs look different than people from southern Arabia.
This auto-generated image is a Psyop. Jesus was not a Neanderthal.
To confirm what Jesus looked like is through personality physiognomy. He was a strong INFJ. Priest Achetype, Auxiliary Trickster, Demon Explorer, Shadow Warrior. High on conscientiousness and neuroticism, low on extraversion and agreeableness, moderate on openness to experience.
This image perfectly depicts someone with the known personality of Jesus. He was also likely highly creative and probably had an IQ in the 160-180 range.
This image is famous for being a painting of Jesus done by someone who had a near death experience and saw Jesus. What else could we learn from NDEs?
Duane Crowther in the 1960’s did a meta-analysis of religious NDE’s and came to the following conclusion about the ‘average’ of what people saw in Jesus. He was consistently around 6 feet tall. The face shape is a given. 90% said he had blue eyes. Lots of variation on hair color.
So how accurate are depictions of Jesus in media? Well I can tell you that there is no way Jesus looked like this. There were plenty of black people in the Bible but I hate to break it to you if I tell you Jesus wasn’t one of them.
I got to say this Ethiopian depiction of Jesus isn’t actually that bad. It’s way better than the Neanderthal Jesus. I’d give it a 3.9/10 rating
This image of Jesus is done pretty well but he didn’t look like Osama Bin Laden either. 5.2/10 rating
Chinese Jesus actually has all of the facial features of Jesus. Solid 7.2/10
Japanese Jesus incredibly still looks exactly like what Jesus should look like. 8.1/10 rating good job 19th century Japanese artist!
I actually believe it’s a form of Anti-Semitism to say that the ancient people of 1st century Palestine looked like this.
Believe it or not Jews genetically are about as different from Italians as British people are to Scandinavians. They are distinct but it’s objectively ridiculous to call them a race or to say that they aren’t Caucasian. Noah did come off of Ararat btw.

So it is interesting how more recent TV shows have portrayed ancient Jews by using people from places far to the Southeast of modern Israel.
Just look at the IMDB of the Chosen. One of these guys is Indian. Sorry the apostles were not Indian.

So I find it interesting when I see Netflix has a show from Jordan (actual Edomites, Moabites, Amalekites) and one of the main characters has red hair. If they had just used actors from Jordan it would’ve looked more accurate.

Roosh V’s blasphemous Halloween costume was provoking. But he could pull it off because he has the general face shape and body shape of Jesus.
The 2nd image from the left is good. The rest aren’t what Jesus looked like.
These images do a much better job.
The Christ by Thorvaldsen has received criticism for creating a Nordic Jesus but it accurately portrays his features.
In the end. Jesus probably looked something along these lines. I already knew that. You already knew that too. It’s ok, Jesus was a Jew.
But if you want a picture we have Jared Leto!
