We have to talk about Gavi & expectations 🔥
Gavi is a regular starter for both Barca & Spain. Extraordinary becomes normal. Normal leads to higher expectations. However, these expectations are not fair.
Gavi is 17 years old. 17 years old & bossing the midfield against world class midfielders. He made his debut at the age of 16. In La Liga, he has played 34 out of 38 games this season.
If Gavi was to get minutes at the end of games like majority of the players at his age, we would talk about him as a talent. However, he skipped that phase. He is now talked about as an established first team player. Again, that comes with different expectations.
He has been astonishing this season. 2 goals & 5 assists. Not only that, but he plays with a commitment very few have.
In fact, he is among the top 1% of the players who applies most pressures at the last third of the pitch.
On the ball he is extremely resistant towards pressure. He is fouled 3.27 times per 90 minutes played (top 1%). This comes as a consequence of him shielding the ball under press. Essential for keeping possession like we want.
There are certain areas he can improve, which is normal given his age. I would like to see him hit even more passes into dangerous areas, and work on switching the play.
Anyways, the point of this thread was how Gavi changed the expectations through being a starter. Despite being extremely young.
