Had a discussion with a neophyte (N) on various aspects of Sanatana Dharma , excerpts
N : What is the meaning of Veda
M : Veda means knowledge
N : Islam and Christianity have dates ,Do you have any dates for Hinduism
M : As I said Veda means Knowledge, it has no dates
M: Real name for Hinduism is Sanatan Dharma, it means " eternal dharma" , it is there since advent of creation , so no dates can be ascribed to it
N: You said Veda means knowledge, how is it acquired, is it man made
M : Vedas are revealed by cosmic vibrations and by God
M : knowledge can be acquired in 3 ways
1. Pratyaksha pramana (Direct sense perception)
We humans are not perfect of the following reasons
๐Ÿ’ We have imperfect senses
๐Ÿ’ Tendency to make mistakes
๐Ÿ’ Tendency to be in illusion
๐Ÿ’ propensity to cheat
So many things we see
are not true, we see a mirage at a distance and mistake it for water
This is why we cannot understand the absolute Truth with our imperfect senses
Seeing is believing is not always perfect
2. 2nd way to gain knowledge is Anuman Praman (Theories based on Evidence)
This is like gaining knowledge from personal experience, it's akin to 6 blind men trying to understand an elephant with their intelligence
This is also not the apt way to understand Absolute Truth
This picture depicts what I had said
3rd way of gaining knowledge is Shabda Pramana (Hearing from authorized source)
Shabda Pramana means hearing from authorized source. As there are 3 things in gaining knowledge from any School/College
School/College should be affiliated with any authorized Board/University
Teachers/Professors
Books
Similarly, when we want to know more about God, then there must be 3 things
Paramparaย like authorized university. There are 4 Authorized Parampara as shown in image.
Guruย like teachers/professors in school/college who will give knowledge about God
