I started making niche websites 3 years ago and now make $35k per month, of which $31k is profit.
Here’s exactly what I did to make that happen…

I started doing SEO in 2008 and spent almost all of my working life employed as an SEO manager…
That gave solid technical SEO knowledge, BUT, I never made more than $40k per year. 😏

In 2019 I started a travel blog as a hobby…
I had NO IDEA I could make money from it!
That is until I saw others documenting their success on YouTube. 💡

I spent one hour per day (and still do) watching or listening to YouTube while I did chores, exercised or drove my car.
I use my SEO expertise to separate the golden nuggets from the bad advice - (there’s plenty of both on YouTube)

I worked on my travel blog every evening, after my kids were in bed.
When it lost 95% of traffic in April 2020, I immediately started another site in a different niche and world on them both in parallel.

By September 2020, I was making enough from my websites that I could quit my job.
I did some work as a freelance writer to help bridge the gap between employment and my new publishing business.

Now, I have four websites in different niches:
- travel
- lifestyle
- gaming
- environment
These are all things that I’m personally interested in because I focus on creating the best quality content that only a true fan could.
I always try to go the extra mile.

I have a small team of four writers and together we create around 40 posts per month.
In total, I now have around 500 articles spread between the four sites.
I try to start one new site per year.

Together, my sites get around 800k page views per month.
I monetise them with Adthrive ads and various affiliate programs.
Some sites are ads-focused, some are affiliate-focused.

There are lots of ways to make money from niche websites but my main tactics are:
1. Thorough keyword research
2. Extreme attention to detail
3. Unique content and images
4. Minimal link building
5. Strong internal linking

I’m sharing my story on Twitter because if others hadn’t shared theirs then I would never know that this was all possible.
I hope you find this inspiring and motivating.
Know that anything is possible if you’re willing to put in the work.
