I started my first affiliate site 6 years ago.
Here are 6 things I learned the hard way.
Hope it's helpful to someone.
[๐Ÿงต thread]
1/ Links matter, but link building is a trap.
The link building industry is very dirty and full of shit.
There are link farms, paid guest posts, link insertions, link exchanges, PBNs, you name it.
If you don't have the experience, don't do link building on your main site.
2/ Keyword research is the real KING.
Yes, content is king, I know. But if you're good at keyword research, you're way ahead of the rest.
Average content could rank #1 for low-competition keywords.
High quality content won't always have high rankings.
3/ Ads are not the work of the devil.
My website was getting 100% of its revenue from affiliate marketing until I applied for Mediavine.
I added $1.5-2K to my total revenue almost overnight, and my affiliate sales didn't decrease.
4/ Site security is crucial.
In the summer of 2021, my website has been DDoS attacked.
It was so violent that the site went offline for a couple of days.
I started paying for high-end website security to save my rankings.
5/ Outsourcing content is hard.
The moment you stop writing your blog posts and start outsourcing, the quality of your content will go down.
It takes a lot of time, energy, and resources to teach a ghostwriter.
And once they learn it all, they quit.
6/ Sharing new blog posts everywhere is pointless.
I wasted so much time and energy sharing every single blog post on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Linkedin, etc.
Find out where your audience hangs out and share there.
You are not a huge brand with a marketing team.
