Furries are very "trad" in a sense that humans have been dressing up as animals & acting as aspects of them since at least the neolithic. Indo-Europeans had wolf brotherhoods, Aztecs had Jaguar Warriors, Greek mythology is pretty a much furry fandom, etc.
It's far better documented in archaeological and mythological records than homosexuality.
to be clear this is descriptive and not prescriptive - I think a lot of traditions, these included, were rightly abolished.
