Hi Twitter Fam, I’m new here…let me practice good manners and introduce myself and tell you a bit about my life
A Thread 🧵 👇🏾
My name is Baba Harare
Real name Braveman Chizvino, as my name suggests handitete zvekumhanya. Born ku sugar in chiredzi I am naturally sweet. Raised in Bikita kuMashoko.
Can you spot me? 👇🏾
People always ask me why I am called Baba Harare… it’s because prior to my arrival Harare yaiva isina Baba. Saka I elected to be father of the city
Prior to my arrival in the city I tried to be Baba Gauteng but I got arrested in SA and was deported back to Harare with a bucket full of beans.
Don’t ask my why they gave me beans 😭
So when I arrived at Mbare Musika I sold my beans and headed for Glenview.
I was housed by a kind pastor and naturally I became a Christian in exchange for accommodation 🙏🏿 😇
I got my first Job yekuveza mubhedha (carpenter) I lasted a week and then I was accused of stealing bolts ( mabhaudhi)
…I can neither deny or confirm that I stole mabhaudhi but they definitely went missing 🤔
Manyemwe nemunyama zvinofambidzana 🤝
I tried to down my sorrows ne scud. And forgot that I was a Christian… 😅
I arrived at the pastor’s house drunk and projectile vomited on my mattress… I don’t have to spell this bit out but me and my two pairs of trousers were out
I had been dabbling in music for a while. Playing session guitar and being part of various Sungura outfits. In these upcoming circles I managed to get myself a permanent role in an upcoming band called Sigma band.
The job came with …
Wait for it…. Accommodation! Kuma dale dale futi.
You can see the dressing has levelled up baba
As fate would have it within these upcoming circles I met a very talented budding artist in the name of @jahprayzah.
We clicked straight away and we started working
So we worked very hard and before you knew it Jah had blown. We were travelling the world. My first ever overseas ndakavata ndakagara kutya kusiyiwa nendege.
I was under Jah’s pupillage for 7 years. He taught me hardwork, perfectionism and above all genuine love of music.
I guess it was time to leave. And the hatevice (hate shrouded as advice) came. Hee wakabvirei? Hee uchafa nezhara but I had a personal conviction that it was time. And besides there was no bad blood between Jah and I. I could always go back.
My solo career started quite lukewarm to cold. From travelling all over the world to playing in empty beer halls. It was a bit of a shock. However I kept showing up and before you knew it I actually was playing.
My proudest moment was when my mum called to say she heard me on the radio 🥹
Fast forward 2022, 6 albums later, I get to tour the world and spread Jiti music to the Jiti family.
I am living my dream 🥹🙏🏿
Moral of the story. Ramba wakadzvanya. Kutowedzera. Life needs tenacity kutochama
If you had one thing you would tell your younger self what would it be?
