Canadian Ukraine Volunteer AKA CanadianUkrain1 is gaining followers by claiming to be in Ukraine. He is not? Here is how I ran it down and why you should care. Firstly I began suspecting him almost 2 months ago when I first stumbled across his page. ⬇️🧵
The stories, the claims, the pictures, nothing added up. Every story more outrageous than the last, read like a badly written stolen valor novel. Then he started including stories as his own I read on telegram from channels I was monitoring on the RU side in soldier chats. 🧵⬇️
I decided to track his location. I first sourced a web article talking about Canadian volunteers in Canada, I used that to create a grabify link which I then masked through a link shortener and sent to him claiming the article mentioned him and I congratulated him⬇️🧵via PM
This had to be done via pm as the link would capture the IP of anyone who clicked it. He clicked the link twice, then blocked me, I’m assuming he realized his IP was snatched.
By this time it was too late. I had his IP address, he clicked the link from a home PC. I ran his IP through WolfRamAlpha which put his location roughly 4,500mi from Ukraine near Ontario Canada. Only truthful thing he ever said was that he was Canadian “in my opinion”
Why should we care? He never asked for donations, which is great. So he didn’t do it for financial gain. But Ukrainians and foreigners are dying for Ukraines right to exist. There are people that have actually dropped everything to put it all on the line. ⬇️🧵
People that have sacrificed all selflessly and he is not one. He can bring attention to the conflict without all the theatrics, staged basement photos and costumes but he degrades those that serve in my opinion. Had he been real he could simply 🧵⬇️
Do what others have done and post a masked group picture with his claimed unit, Ukraine patches, unit patches, all things that do not identify him directly that others have done without issue or fear. He has shown zero that puts him anywhere near Ukraine. ⬇️🧵

Look for credible sources, support people that are credible and doing good work not those out there that seek to inflate their own egos out to benefit from the suffering of others in one form or another. I am not affiliated with the above mentioned people, but they are credible.
I’ve had a number of messages asking for more proof, I can’t provide a picture of him eating poutine at a Canadian cafe lol, all he would have to do to prove me wrong is post ANYTHING showing him with Ukrainian forces or in Ukraine near destroyed equipment🧵⬇️
Which shouldn’t be hard for a master space shuttle special forces door gunner that isn’t sitting in moms basement with Halloween makeup on watching telegram channels for obscure bits to make his own.⬇️🧵
I saw @MalcolmNance liked this post which Sir I greatly respect you and appreciate. Maybe he can confirm for you all that it isn’t impossible to confirm someone is in country without OPSEC exposure. It’s actually easy. The burden is on CanadianUkrain1.
