If you understand the Valmiki Ramayana evidence, then you understand:
1. Rama and Sita were of the same age.
2. They were 16 when they married
3. They were 17 when they left for Vanavas.
Yet, most commentators of the last 400 years have created confusion beyond imagination!
Raja Dasharatha states…
Bala Kand (GP edition 20:2)
Ayodhya Kand (GP edition 118:34)
(“Seeing my age to be such, when union with a husband can be easily had, my father fell prey to anxiety feeling miserable ”)
Bala Kand (GP edition 77:14)
(Then all the princesses paid respects to all of the respectable ones, and they luxuriated in sequestered palace chambers along with their husbands)
Aranya kand (CE 45:4-5)
(Rama and Sita enjoyed married life for about a year. when the year was over, Dasharatha, in consultation with his ministers, decided to coronate Rama.)
Aranya kand (CE 36:5-6)
When Rama was ready to leave for Vanavas, Kausalya, his mother, tells Rama,
Ayodhya Kand (GP edition 20:45)
(I was waiting, from your birth, for 17 years, for my troubles to be over)
That is it!
1. Vishwamitra came to Dasharatha when Rama was almost 16.
2. Vishwamitra took Rama to Mithila where Rama married Sita. Both Sita and Rama were of the same age (16)
3. Rama and Sita stayed in Ayodhya for a year, when Dasharatha thought of Rama-Yuvarajyabhishek
4. Instead Rama, Sita, and Laxman left for Vanavas
5. Both Rama and Sita were about 17 years old when they left for Vanavas.
That is it.
Any other claim leads to confusion and delusion.
