I have jotted a few tips that helps in your decision to donate online and to crowdfunding campaigns.
While genuine & needy do benefit from such campaigns, a lot of scammers are around playing on our sentiments to siphon the donations.
Am listing them in this thread +
/donate only if fully convinced
/check references & ask online in open not DM's
/donation seekers with face come about as honest
/google about the seekers background
/ask for mobile & kyc to verify on truecaller
/make multiple small multiple donations instead of lump sum +
/expect pukka receipts
/scammers prey on sentiments with pictures and depressing messages
/verify with mentioned hospitals all details directly
/long term aggressive campaigns create doubts
/insist on paying to hospitals and providers directly
/follow up for updates +++
/for large campaign have locals verify details
/refer responsibly
/for large campaigns insist on monthly balance sheet
/check & question expense heads like salaries, promotions, advertisement, fees and charges etc..
/when in doubt stop, check and alert others ++++
/lot of people donating need not always mean genuine
/alert regulators and law enforcement when you smell and its confirmed as fraud/scam
/a scam has elements of blackmail, emotional messaging, over or under data and mostly digital only with no brick and mortar.
