South Africa has the largest amount of migrants in Africa with Mozambique being the largest source at 462k followed by Zimbabwe (358k), then Lesotho (310k), but the biggest surprise is the UK at #4 with 305k.
This begs the question, how come they are totally absent from the xenophobia since they are such a prominent population.
Kenya follows closely and even outdoes South Africa by having the largest single migrant group with Somalia at 517k. Uganda (271k) and Tanzania ( 32k) round out the top 3.
Somalia seems like a major population exporter as they are also the top migrant group in Ethiopia with 457k. Sudanese (21k) and Eritrea (8k) round the top 3.
Angola, like South Africa has a European country in its top 4 with Portugal at 12k. The DRC (35k) is the top source for migrants to Angola and Cabo Verde (8.5k) rounding out the top 3.
For West Africa, Nigeria's migrant population is dominated by Benin Rep. at 226k, Ghana in 2nd with 176k and Mali at 126k. I'm surprised Cameroonians are not higher in Nigeria.
OMG! and we have the winner for largest single migrant population in any African country. Cote d'Ivoire has 1.4 million migrants from Burkina Faso, more than twice the Somali's in Kenya. Mali (400k), and Guinea (106k) round out the top 3.
For Ghana, Togo is the largest group with 142k, followed by Burkina Faso (92k), then Nigeria (32k). There's also a small UK population, though a lot lower than in South Africa.
