How being told I was gifted nearly ruined my life
And how I turned it around using the GROWTH MINDSET
-THREAD-
When I was a kid, I thought I was the smartest guy around.
I was in gifted and talented programs.
I was an advanced reader.
I was even taken out of a class so a teacher could "pick" my brain.
That led to me carrying a destructive belief: talent is superior to effort.
Nothing could be further from the truth!
I barely studied for my classes because I thought I was so smart.
I developed a deep fear of failure.
As you can imagine, life wasn't going so great!
I had something called the FIXED MINDSET.
The fixed mindset is a belief that your intelligence is fixed.
The IQ you have, the talent you possess, the abilities you can develop are set in stone.
This can lead to some destructive qualities that can affect your life.
A fixed mindset leads to a fear of failure.
A fixed mindset can create deep feelings of insecurity.
A fixed mindset leads to someone not unlocking their full potential in life.
What can we do to change this?
DEVELOP A GROWTH MINDSET!
This mentality can shift the course of your life if you implement it.
It certainly did for me.
A growth mindset is all about effort instead of talent.
It is a belief that you can develop any skill with enough hard work and time!
The benefits of a growth mindset are tenfold.
A growth mindset leads to a love of learning.
A growth mindset teaches you to embrace challenges.
A growth mindset allows you to reach your full potential in life!
How can you develop a growth mindset?
1. Learn to enjoy the process
2. Reward yourself for how much effort you put into something
3. Ask for feedback from peers.
4. See challenges as learning experiences
5. Believe with all your heart you can achieve anything with effort!
With a growth mindset, I no longer fear failure.
I simply love the process of learning things.
The growth mindset changed my life, and I hope it can do the same for you.
That's a wrap! I hope you enjoyed this thread.
