I receive multiple DMs like this
I thought it will be interesting to provide a general Idea
1st question is - do you want to be a hobbyist or do you want to make this a career?
You need to seriously think about this
The approach would differ significantly
๐Ÿงต
If you want to make this a career choice then the important things to learn -
1. python or R programming language.
2. Data science concepts
Otherwise, if you want to remain hobbyist, knowledge of tableau software is sufficient.
๐Ÿงต
For both - There is a very good introduction course by @StatsBomb It may be a great idea to do that
I always suggest everyone to read 2 books -
1. The Numbers Game
2. The Football Hackers (My favourite book)
You need to read @StatsBomb articles on different concepts

Some general advice -
1. Read definitions of the data parameters multiple times & try to understand them
2. Always begin with a question when making data viz - then think how your data analysis can answer that
3. Follow and try to understand how people are using data in twitter
There are huge amount of resources available. Use them.
Example -
@NinadB_06 created very good tutorials on tableau use in football analytics.
@mckayjohns has some very good python tutorials
#friendsoftracking series in YouTube is a very good source (@Soccermatics )
Finally, put your work out publicly & ask for feedback.
I have found people in analytics twitter are extremely helpful & are ready to give feedback.
There are tons of great people who are doing excellent work & are ready to help you.
Addendum & plug -
I created a community in Twitter to assist people regarding proper use of data
Can always ask questions about any data post there
