The most iconic business leader on TV: Don Draper
He’s calm. He’s humble. BUT. He commands respect.
9 powerful lessons from Don Draper to make people instantly connect:
1/ Notice eye color:
When you first meet people notice their eye color while also smiling at them.
- This makes you look at them longer, showing that you're interested in them.
- Smile conveys your good intent.
Result: They will respond with a smile.
2/ Be unreasonable:
Ask people to do an unreasonable task.
They'll say "no".
Now ask them to do what you want, a more reasonable task.
They're more likely to agree after saying no the first time.
3/ Use names:
Refer to people you've just met by their names.
People love being referred to by their names.
It establishes a sense of trust and friendship right away.
4/ Keep your hands warm:
Before approaching someone, rub your hands against each other.
Have a warm hand before shaking hands with somebody.
It makes you instantly more likable.
5/ Stay calm:
When someone is angry stay calm.
It will make them angrier, and be ashamed about it after.
6/ Inject excitement:
Get yourself to be really happy and excited to see other people.
They will mirror the excitement.
If not the 1st time, it will definitely happen the 2nd time.
7/ Wait:
If you ask someone a question and they only partially answer then,
"just wait".
If you stay silent and keep eye contact they will usually continue talking.
8/ Notice their feet:
You approach 2 people in the middle of a conversation.
They only turn their torso and not their feet.
This means they don't want you to join their conversation.
9/ Assume they like you:
Walk into a room and assume everybody already like you.
You'll 10x your confidence.
John Maxwell says:
"To connect with people, be yourself and at your best."
The psychology behind why people connect gives you the courage and confidence to get started.
